Liability and Property Damage: Protects you against claims for bodily injury or property damage you cause to others in an accident.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage: Bodily injury and property damage protection if you're involved in an accident with a driver who has insufficient coverage or no insurance at all.
Collision Coverage: Provides physical damage coverage for repairs to your vehicle if it's damaged in a collision with another vehicle or object. For classic cars, this can include coverage for specialized parts and repair shops.
Comprehensive Coverage: Provides coverage for non-collision related incidents, such as fire, theft, vandalism, falling objects, or damage from natural disasters. This is particularly important for classic cars, which might be more prone to theft or damage when stored.
Medical Payments/Personal Injury Protection (PIP): Coverage for medical expenses for you and your passengers if injured in an auto accident, regardless of fault.
Roadside Assistance: Helps with expenses for emergency towing, fuel delivery, jump-starts, and other assistance services if your vehicle breaks down. This is especially useful for classic cars that might require specialized towing or experience unexpected mechanical issues.
Custom Parts and Equipment: Provides coverage for aftermarket parts, modifications, or custom equipment that adds value to your vehicle beyond its factory condition.
Loan/Lease Gap Coverage: Pays the difference (the "gap") between the amount you still owe on your car loan or lease and the car's actual cash value (ACV) if the vehicle is declared a total loss. This prevents you from having to pay off a loan on a vehicle you can no longer drive.
Agreed Value/Stated Value (Classic Car Specific): Rather than standard actual cash value, this coverage sets an agreed-upon value for your classic car at the beginning of the policy, ensuring you receive that amount if it's a total loss.
Mileage Restrictions (Classic Car Specific): Some classic car policies have mileage limitations to reflect their limited use, which can result in lower premiums.
Storage and Lay-Up Coverage (Classic Car Specific): Provides coverage for your classic car when it is stored and not being driven, often at a reduced premium.
Personal Umbrella Protection: This is an invaluable layer of protection that significantly extends the liability limits of your underlying insurance policies, most notably your auto insurance, but also your homeowners and rental property insurance. Personal Umbrella Coverage provides additional liability coverage, typically in increments of $1 million, designed to protect your assets and future earnings in the event of a catastrophic lawsuit. For drivers, this is especially critical. Imagine a severe car accident where you are at fault, resulting in multiple serious injuries or fatalities. The medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering awards could easily exceed the liability limits of even a robust auto policy. In such a scenario, your umbrella policy would kick in once your auto insurance limits are exhausted, covering the remaining costs up to its limit. This shields your personal assets, such as savings, investments, and even your future income, from being seized to satisfy the judgment. Beyond auto incidents, an umbrella policy also provides broader protection for other severe liability claims, such as someone being seriously injured on your property, or even a defamatory statement you make online. It often includes perils like libel, slander, or false arrest, and can extend to situations beyond your vehicles or home. This coverage is particularly important for individuals with significant assets or those who engage in activities that increase their risk of being sued, as auto accidents are a leading cause of large liability claims.
